The Canadiens have parted  company with forwards Benoit Pouliot, Tom Pyatt and defenceman Alexandre Picard.

By not tendering qualifying contract offers by 5.00 this afternoon, the trio automatically became unrestricted free agents effective Friday.

Picard was a free agent signing last summer who never caught on with the Canadiens.  He was a healthy scratch thirty-one times.  Pyatt was one of the fastest skaters on the team but had a remarkable lack of scoring ability.  In 101 games with the team over the last two seasons he scored four goals.   Pouliot demonstrated a great amount of hockey skills but lacked intensity.

The Canadiens had nine others in the restricted free agent catgegory. Receiving qualifying offers today were RFA’s Ryan White, Josh Gorges and Yannick Weber plus minor leaguers Mathieu Carle, Ryan Russell, Frederic St. Denis and Kyle Klubertanz.   Klubertanz will play the coming season in Sweden.  Dustin Boyd and Nigel Dawes, who have signed contracts in the KHL, were also not offered contracts.    Gorges and Weber are expected to sign longer term contracts later this week.
