Last Meetings – Dec. 19, 2010 at Denver   Colorado-3  Canadiens-2.   Canadiens had 1-0 and 2-1 leads in the game before Porter and Galiardi scored to win the game.  Cammalleri and Alexandre Picard scored for the Canadiens.   Canadiens outshot Avalanche 14-5 in the third period but couldn’t score on goaltender Craig Anderson.  The last time the teams met at the Bell Centre, the Avalanche won 3-2 October 15/2009. Ryan O’Reilly scored his first NHL goal with six minutes left in the game spoiling the Canadiens 100th home opener.  Hamrlik and Plekanec scored for the Canadiens.

Last Time Out – Colorado has won the first three games of a five game road trip beating Boston, Columbus and Ottawa.  Thursday night they beat the Senators 7-1.  Joakiim Lindstrom scored twice.  Ryan O’Reilly with three assists.  Jean-Sebastien Giguere with 15 saves.     Canadiens lost 4-1 to Calgary in their home opener Thursday.  Kostitsyn scored the Canadiens only goal.

Goaltending Colorado  Semyon Varlamov – Fourth start of season (2-1-0)  1.30GAA  .960 save%.  Varlamov is 3-0-1 vs. the Canadiens, all four games with Washington.       Canadiens – Carey Price is again looking for his 100th career regular season victory.  (1-2-0)  2.36GAA  .960 save%.  This will be his third career start vs. Colorado.  He is 0-2-0 with a
3.05GAA.   .

Notes –


……Should the Avalanche win tonight it would be the first time the club has opened 4-0-0 on the road in 26 years (Oct. 12-21 1985 when the team was in Quebec City.  To put that in context; Peter Stastny was a member of the Nordiques that year and his son Paul was born six weeks after the win streak ended.

……The last time the Canadiens beat the Avalanche at home was October 21st 2006, an 8-5 victory.  The Canadiens pumped five third period goals past Jose Theodore, who was marking his return to Montreal.  Sheldon Souray had 2 goals and 2 assists in the game.  Saku Koivu had three assists.    Paul Stastny scored his first NHL goal.  David Aebischer was in goal for Montreal.  The game also marked the return of Patrice Brisebois to the Canadiens.  Despite two assists he was booed by the Montreal fans.

……The Avalanche lost their opening game of the season at home 3-0 Oct. 8th against Detroit.  They then opened their
road trip with a 1-0 win over Boston two days later; they beat Columbus 3-2 in a shootout Wednesday followe by the 7-1 win in Ottawa the next night.  Their road trip ends in Toronto Monday night.
